Visa Requirement for Bhutan

All travelers except Indian residents require visa for traveling to Bhutan.In order to process Bhutan visa, we require clear readable color copy of passport (page containing passport no and face picture in JPEG or PDF format) at least 20 days prior to date of entry into Bhutan. Remaining validity of passport should be at least 6 months from the date of exit from Bhutan.

Tourism Council of Bhutan issues visa clearance letter closer to traveling date which we email or fax you or your local travel agent. Travelers are required to produce aforesaid visa clearance copy at the time of check-in for Druk Air flight while those entering Bhutan by surface via Phuentsholing or Samdrup Jonkhar, they are required to produce this Visa Clearance letter at the Immigration counter. Actual visa is stamped at passport on arrival in Bhutan.

Visa only service is not offered in Bhutan, guests have to buy full service tour package from local tour operator that includes accommodation, guided tours, transfers etc.

Visa fee of US$ 40 (increased from Jan 2013) is included in the tour package cost.

* Guests are required to have multiple entry visa for India if they are traveling to Bhutan from India and again returning to India from Bhutan

Custom and Duties:

Visitors are required to complete a passenger declaration form for checking by concerned officers on arrival. The following articles are exempt from duty:

  • Personal effects and articles for day-to-day use by the visitor.
  • 2 liters of alcohol (spirits or wine).
  • Instruments, apparatus of appliances for professional use.
  • Photographic equipment, video cameras and other electronic goods for personal use.

The articles mentioned under (c) & (d) must be declared on the declaration form. If any such items are disposed off in Bhutan by sale or gift, they are liable for customs duty. On departure, visitors are required to surrender their forms to the Customs authorities.

Cancellation Policy

To confirm your cancellation of your booking for the trip to Bhutan, full tour payment must have been made prior to your arrival. Your tour cost will be refunded to you after deduction of the following scale of charges depending on when the notification of your tour cancellation is received.

Tour cancellation & refund policy

  • Full refund will be made for the tour cancelled 30 days or more prior to arrival date.
  • 20% penalty on the total tour cost for the tour cancelled less than 30 days prior to arrival date. This is because by this time hotels would be already booked and company is subject to cancellation charges for rooms cancelled in less than 30 days.
  • Duration lost or trip shortened due to unforeseen reasons after arrival in Bhutan, no refund will be made – because we will already have had paid for the hotels and other logistics.

Drukair cancellation & refund policy

  • 100% refund permitted for tickets cancelled more than 30 days from the date of travel.
  • 50% refund permitted for tickets cancelled between 30 days - last 15 days from the date of travel.
  • No refund will be made for missed connections or "no show" at the airports.
  • Additional fee of US $10 is levied for every date change once the tickets have been issued.
  • For every cancelled ticket, an administrative fee of US $25 is levied.
